This Privacy Policy explains how PaceDuel ("PaceDuel", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects personal information when you use the PaceDuel mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

PaceDuel is a running and social competition application that allows users to track running activities, compete head-to-head, communicate with other users, maintain profiles, and share user-generated content.

2. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on the features you use and the permissions you grant to PaceDuel.

2.1 Account and Facebook Login Information

You may create or access a PaceDuel account using Facebook Login. When you choose this option, PaceDuel may receive information made available through Facebook and the permissions you authorize.

This may include:

• Facebook user ID or other account identifier;
• name or display name;
• email address, where made available and authorized;
• profile photograph, where made available and authorized; and
• authentication information necessary to maintain your PaceDuel account.

We use this information to create and maintain your PaceDuel account, authenticate you, identify your account, and provide the Service.

2.2 GPS and Location Data

PaceDuel may request access to your device's location services when you use running-tracking or competition features.

GPS and location information may include your geographic position, route, distance, speed, pace, elevation, timestamps, and other information calculated from your running activity.

We use this information to:

• track and record running activities;
• calculate distance, pace, speed, elevation, and related statistics;
• enable head-to-head races and challenges;
• calculate competition results and rankings;
• display relevant running information to you and, where applicable, other participants;
• detect cheating, manipulation, fraud, or other abuse; and
• operate, secure, and improve the Service.

Location access is not required for features that do not need location information, unless the relevant feature specifically requires it.

2.3 Camera, Selfies, and Photographs

PaceDuel may request access to your device camera if you choose to take or upload a profile photograph, selfie, or other photograph.

Photographs may be used as profile pictures, uploaded to chats, or used in other features that allow user-generated content.

We do not use photographs for facial recognition or biometric identification. We do not create a biometric template from your photograph.

Camera access is controlled through your device's operating-system permissions. You can deny or revoke camera access through your device settings.

2.4 Running and Competition Data

We collect information generated through your use of PaceDuel, which may include:

• running distance and duration;
• pace and speed;
• GPS routes and coordinates;
• running dates and times;
• race and challenge results;
• rankings, achievements, and competition history; and
• other running statistics generated by the Service.

2.5 Chat and Messaging Data

PaceDuel includes chatting and messaging features that allow users to communicate with other PaceDuel users.

When you use these features, we may collect and store the content you send, including text messages, photographs, and other files or content that you voluntarily upload through a conversation.

We process chat data to:

• deliver messages and uploaded content to intended recipients;
• provide and maintain chat functionality;
• store messages so that the feature can function across supported devices;
• maintain security and prevent spam, abuse, fraud, and other misuse;
• investigate reports of violations of our terms or applicable law; and
• comply with legal obligations where required.

Private chat messages are not intentionally made public by PaceDuel. However, you should understand that anything you send to another person may be viewed, copied, photographed, downloaded, or otherwise retained by that recipient.

PaceDuel does not sell the content of private messages or use private message content for targeted advertising.

2.6 Public Profiles and Custom Status Messages

PaceDuel provides public profile pages. You may choose to publish information on your profile, such as a display name, profile photograph, running statistics, achievements, and a custom status message.

Information that you intentionally publish on your public profile is intended to be visible to other PaceDuel users and may be accessible to anyone who can view your profile, depending on the functionality and settings of the Service.

Your custom status message is user-generated content. You should not publish passwords, financial information, precise home addresses, private contact information, or other information that you do not want to make public.

We may remove or restrict profile content that violates our Terms of Service, applicable law, or rules concerning abuse, harassment, fraud, illegal activity, or other prohibited content.

2.7 Device and Technical Information

We may automatically collect technical information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as:

• device type and operating system;
• application version;
• IP address;
• installation or device identifiers, where applicable;
• crash and diagnostic information; and
• basic application performance information.

3. How We Use Personal Data

We may use personal information to:

• create and manage PaceDuel accounts;
• authenticate users;
• track running activities;
• provide head-to-head races and challenges;
• calculate race results, rankings, and statistics;
• provide chat, profiles, and other social features;
• store and display user-generated content;
• prevent cheating, abuse, fraud, spam, and unauthorized use;
• provide customer support;
• maintain and improve the Service;
• maintain application security and reliability;
• comply with legal obligations; and
• protect the rights, safety, and property of PaceDuel and its users.

4. Legal Bases for Processing

Where the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract: where processing is necessary to provide features you request, such as account authentication, running tracking, competitions, profiles, and messaging.
• Consent: where you voluntarily give consent and consent is required by applicable law, including certain device permissions or optional processing.
• Legitimate interests: where necessary to operate, secure, maintain, improve, and protect PaceDuel, provided that those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
• Legal obligation: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law or a lawful request.

5. Firebase and Google Cloud

PaceDuel uses Google Firebase and related Google Cloud services for application infrastructure, authentication, backend processing, database services, file storage, and other technical functions required to operate PaceDuel.

Depending on the Firebase services used by PaceDuel and the features you use, information processed by these services may include account information, Facebook Login information, GPS and running data, profile information, photographs, chat messages, custom status messages, race results, and other user-generated content.

5.1 Firebase Authentication

PaceDuel uses Firebase Authentication to create, authenticate, and manage user accounts. Authentication information may include identifiers associated with your PaceDuel account and authentication provider, such as your Facebook user identifier, email address, and display name, where applicable.

5.2 Firebase Database Services

PaceDuel may use Firebase database services, including Cloud Firestore or other Firebase database functionality, to store information required to operate the application. This may include user profiles, running activities, competition data, rankings, chat messages, custom status messages, and other application data.

5.3 Firebase Cloud Storage

PaceDuel may use Cloud Storage for Firebase to store photographs and other files that you choose to upload, including profile photographs, selfies, photographs sent through chats, and other user-generated content.

5.4 Data Location and International Transfers

PaceDuel uses Firebase and Google Cloud infrastructure for which relevant PaceDuel data is stored or processed in the United States. Firebase Authentication is operated from US data centers. Other Firebase services may use global Google infrastructure depending on the service and its configured location.

Accordingly, personal information of users in the European Economic Area ("EEA") may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States or other countries in which Google or its service providers operate.

Where required by applicable data protection law, PaceDuel relies on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, which may include Standard Contractual Clauses and other legally recognized transfer mechanisms.

Google generally acts as a data processor for personal data that PaceDuel provides to Firebase for processing on our behalf. Google's processing is governed by the applicable Firebase and Google Cloud data processing terms.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share personal information with service providers that process data on our behalf and help us operate PaceDuel. These providers may include cloud infrastructure, authentication, database, storage, analytics, diagnostics, security, customer support, and other technical providers.

We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our terms, investigate suspected abuse or fraud, protect the security of the Service, or protect the rights, safety, and property of PaceDuel, our users, or others.

7. Facebook Login

Facebook Login is an optional authentication method. When you use Facebook Login, Facebook may provide PaceDuel with information according to the permissions you authorize and the settings associated with your Facebook account.

PaceDuel uses information received through Facebook Login to authenticate your account, create and maintain your PaceDuel account, and provide the Service.

PaceDuel does not sell Facebook Login information and does not use Facebook Login information for purposes unrelated to the Service unless we obtain your permission or are otherwise legally permitted to do so.

Facebook independently processes information under its own terms and privacy policies. PaceDuel does not control Facebook's independent processing.

8. Public and Competitive Information

PaceDuel is designed around competition and social interaction. Information that you choose to make public may therefore be visible to other users.

This may include:

• display name;
• profile photograph;
• custom status message;
• race results;
• running statistics;
• rankings and achievements;
• competition history; and
• other information you voluntarily make public.

Public profile content is different from private chat content. Content that you intentionally publish on your public profile may be visible to other users, while private chat content is intended to be accessible only to the participants of the relevant conversation, subject to the operation, security, and legal requirements of the Service.

We will not intentionally publish your precise home address through your public profile.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing the Service, maintaining account records, preventing fraud and abuse, resolving disputes, enforcing our terms, and complying with legal obligations.

Different categories of information may be retained for different periods. Account information may generally be retained while your account is active. Running activities, competition history, profile content, photographs, and chat messages may be retained for as long as necessary to provide the relevant features or until deletion is requested, subject to applicable legal, security, and operational requirements.

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize personal information associated with the account within a reasonable period, unless we are required or permitted by law to retain particular information.

Some information may remain temporarily in encrypted backups, disaster recovery systems, security logs, or fraud-prevention records before being permanently deleted in accordance with our retention procedures.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, loss, misuse, or destruction.

These measures include access controls and security features provided by our application infrastructure and Firebase/Google Cloud services.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights including:

• the right to access your personal information;
• the right to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
• the right to request deletion of your personal information;
• the right to restrict certain processing;
• the right to object to certain processing;
• the right to data portability;
• the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and
• the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority.

12. Account and Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your PaceDuel account and associated personal information by contacting info@paceduel.com.

Please include the email address or other account information associated with your PaceDuel account so that we can identify the account and process the request.

Account deletion may result in deletion or anonymization of your profile, running activities, photographs, chat history, and other information associated with your account, subject to applicable legal, security, and technical retention requirements.

Content that you have shared with other users may have been viewed, copied, downloaded, or otherwise retained independently by those users. Deleting your PaceDuel account cannot necessarily remove copies that another user has already retained.

13. Children's Privacy

PaceDuel is not intended for children below the minimum age required to use the Service under applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children where such collection is prohibited by applicable law.

If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information in circumstances where collection was not permitted, please contact us at info@paceduel.com.

14. Third-Party Services

PaceDuel may rely on third-party services to provide the Service. These providers may process information on our behalf or, where they operate independently, according to their own privacy policies.

Our current core infrastructure provider is Google Firebase and Google Cloud. Facebook may also process information independently when you use Facebook Login.

15. Cookies and Similar Technologies

If you use a PaceDuel website, we may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the website, maintain security, remember preferences, and understand website usage.

Where required by applicable law, non-essential cookies and similar technologies will only be used after obtaining the required consent.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to PaceDuel, our data-processing practices, technology, or applicable legal requirements.

When we make material changes, we may provide additional notice through the application, website, or another appropriate method.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when this Privacy Policy was most recently revised.
